I know, I know! I’m horrible at updating! Sorry.

But here I am, once again, to provide you with more beautiful content. For those of you who read my last post, I touched on 1 Timothy 4:12, a very important verse about (especially the youth) sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

About a month ago, I had the privilege to talk to some of my friends/youth buddies about a topic we all deal with; the art of lying. For those of you who are reading this and were present, thank you for listening to me in all my nervousness, you guys are the real MVP’s.

Thanks to the encouragement and help from my parents, whom helped me more with the talking, because, if you know me well enough, you know I like to write more than talk about certain things. And, well, I was just nervous, as being a part of the youth still, to be talking with them about these topics.

So! After a long wait, I’m finally going to go further into this topic today, in the best way I know – writing.

What is the definition of a lie?

noun

1. a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.
2. something intended or serving to convey a false impression; imposture: His flashy car was a lie that deceived no one.
3. an inaccurate or false statement; a falsehood.

Notice the word ‘falsehood’? Depending on which Bible version you read, falsehood as a word you’ll find a lot in the Bible.

So, now that we know the definition of a lie, let me ask you some questions:

• When was the last time you lied?;
• Did you get away with it?;
• Did it feel good? Probably in the moment, right?;
• Why did you feel the need to lie?;
• Will continuously lying change the way people perceive you/think of you? It most likely will. 

I know people who’s lives are surrounded by lies. Family, friends, acquaintance, etc. And the lie catches on to you. Trust me.

It’s safe to say that many of us, as teenagers, often lie to get ourselves out of trouble. It seems the easiest. Making our parents think that we’re all good and innocent.

Now, as Christian teenagers, we should know well enough that constant lies will not guarantee us any good. But, living in a worldly manner tends to get the best of us, in my opinion. We lie mostly out of fear; fear that we’ll get in serious trouble – or perhaps, we know we aren’t supposed to be doing something, so we lie. Until we catch ourselves in our own web of lies.

Ephesians 4:29 – 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

THIS, this right here is the verse that we should be showing each other when we see one another getting themselves in a lie. And I can understand that you don’t want to stuff your nose where you’re not supposed to, but remember that we are baby believers, growing together in the faith, and our job is to build each other up, like it says in Ephesians 4:29.

1 Timothy 4:2 – 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

Revelation 22:15 – 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Proverbs 13:5 – 5 The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.

These are strong verses to read and, whether you’re a believer or not, it will hit hard and be hard to process and live by.

I shall paint you a picture that has been on my mind:

You are a royal child, a prince, a princess – in the eyes of God. You are His greatest treasure.   He will put a crown on your head when you get to heaven – and the gems that will be placed on that crown? Wow.
He wants you to see that you should be clean in His sight and those of others. And you know how you should do that? Being obedient. Doing what is in His favor. Can you imagine what His face would look like when He sees you lying; just to get yourself out of a minor problem that will turn into a great trouble afterwards? Can you imagine your face when someone you dearly love and care for lies to you? So much for lying and forgetting to be honest, huh?

It’s not easy to change your ways, but it’s possible, because Mark 9:23 and Matthew 19:26 say so:

Mark 9:23 – 9 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

Matthew 19:26 – 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

With all that aside! Mark 1:15 will be my closing verse for this week’s blog. Meditate on it, reflect and let God work in your heart.
