What is TRUTH? (According to Scripture)

Once again, I am asking myself questions surrounding scripture from the Bible. Last week during Youth Meeting, we continued reading 1 Corinthians 13 (in case you haven’t read the previous blog, here’s a link to it): Let’s talk about LOVE (According To Scripture)

SO, intrigued as always, I listened very closely to the different examples that were being discussed during Youth surrounding this topic. Pastor teaches us that when it comes to a higher authority, God is that authority for us on earth. Given that He has given us everything we have in our possession. If you live with your parents, they are your authority, because they pay for that roof under your head, for the electricity, water, etc.

You get the point.

Pastor asked us: “What is truth? What goes through your mind when you hear the word TRUTH?” So, someone pointed out… Honesty. And that was the word that stayed in my mind for the rest of the week. With events that happened weeks, months, years ago and some that happened just this past week, I just had to sit and ask myself: “What is truth anyway?”

As an example, Pastor had asked something like this: “If your mom asked you to tell people she isn’t home when they call, would you lie in the eyes of God to obey your mother’s request?”

I will admit, I’ve been one of those children whom’s mother would tell to “lie”, basically. It’s harsh to say they made you LIE, but it basically is, so, you know. So, someone perked up and asked the following (along the lines of): “So, Pastor, I’m supposed to disobey my mother for God, meanwhile she can easily kick me out of the house (metaphorically speaking of course), but at least I obeyed God, but could lose my mother?”

Again, this is just how I remember mildly of how it went. So, Pastor taught us that when knowing the word of God (and this is my interpretation), we are to teach this to others. So, in this case, we are to explain to our parents why we mustn’t lie in front of God.

It was a fine conversation, a lot of opinions were being shared, but no doubt I was thinking a lot about this subject. Not only myself, but family members and friends have been in that period lately (and are still in that period, possibly) where we’d much rather lie or not say anything at all just to avoid the truth. It’s a thing society teaches us to do.

Proverbs 12:19 states: “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”

Living in the Netherlands made me someone you wouldn’t consider “a child of God”. However, I’ve come to accept that I have to always be truthful, so I trust my parents by telling them the truth. Unfortunately, not everyone can do that, because of the fear they have. And now, more and more, by reading scripture, I’m able to learn more about the word of God and how this relates to our every day life.

So, as it says in John 8:32: “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The important verses concerning this blog are:

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

– 1 Corinthians 13:6-7

Truth means love, Truth means honesty, Truth means putting your life in a higher authority’s hands and trusting them to do what is right.

And that’s only my version of truth.

By reflecting on the situations that have happened in my life and those that are still happening, I’m able to open my heart a little more to accept these situations and to know when I’m being truthful or not.

SO. BE. TRUTHFUL. ALWAYS.

What have we learned from this today:

  1. Truth is love;
  2. Truth is honesty;
  3. Truth is NOT fear;
  4. Truth is Jesus;
  5. Truth will set you free.

That’s all for today, folks.

Thanks for reading.

Talk soon.

Your Sincerely,

Clouds.
